The French War-Chest is Stolen
Around midday on the following day the local magistrate of Freudenberg is disturbed at lunch. A hoard of about 500 peasants from surrounding villages are storming through the town’s gates into the town centre. The mob swarms over the war-chest of the French, who flee into the town house in which they have been comfortably accommodated.

On the local magistrate’s orders the citizens of Freudenberg keep their distance so as not to disturb their guests while they are working. However, as soon as they realise that the French are fighting over French State property, consisting of about half a million Francs, they lose their self-control and they join in the fight for all they’re worth. Everyone tries to grab as much of the treasure as possible. No holds barred!
